These are elaborate backdrops each built for the auspicious occasions of King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s and Queen Sirikit’s birthday celebrations at the Wat Thai of LA opened to the public. The king’s birthday is December 5, and the queen’s birthday is August 12. The occasion is always well attended by Thai and local dignitaries, prominent members of the Thai community, and the general public. Thais believe that Buddhism is one of three forces that give their kingdom its strength; the other two being the monarchy and nationhood.
